The time and space to walk slowly, listen deeply, and find the sacred.
A pilgrimage is an intentional journey often taken to foster personal introspection. It is a surrendering of control, a commitment of time, it is embodied, and it is stepping outside of our daily routines.
It can also be helpful to think about a Pilgrimage by what it is not…it is not a hike, or tourism, or a fitness challenge, or a history tour, although it may include elements of those experiences along the way.
1. It does not emphasize a scenic path. While our routes are primarily on multiuse paths adjacent our dry desert streams and along neighborhood streets, telling our city’s story means we travel through the heart of a centuries-old community that is now home to over half a million people.
2. It doesn’t have a sacred church, building, or shrine as its ultimate destination, instead our experiences of the places, stories, and people we encounter along the way are the “destination”.
